Superchio series is a reflection Apuan’ s landscape (Tuscany, Italy), precisely on their mountains, famous for their white marble,  extracted without regulation, leaving them always bit more empty.  Such reflections become suggestions to deal with the sculpture and a history’s full material as marble in a contemporary way. If Michelangelo Buonarroti advice to the good artist to don’t do nothing else that keep the cover (superchio, in Italian) of the marble, because in its inside there is already enclosed the shape of the sculpture; I keep material only inside of the stone, leaving the cover intact: the sculpture is always enclosed in the marble, but it coincides with emptiness.

“Non ha l’ottimo artista alcun concetto

c’un marmo solo in sé non circonscriva

col suo superchio, e solo a quello arriva

la man che ubbidisce all’intelletto. “

“ The  master-craftsman hath no thought in mind

That one sole marble block may not contain

Within itself, but this we only find

When the hand serves the impulse of the brain”

Michelangelo Buonarroti
